An easy to make vegan hot chocolate mix that is not only delicious and easy to make, but that is also the perfect DIY gift for the holidays!
This post is sponsored by our friends over at So Delicious Dairy Free.
Hot chocolate is a must during the cold winter months, right? Instead of picking up a pre-made mix at the store, we encourage you to try making one of your own! It’s simple and cheap, plus it requires just 3 ingredients and a few minutes of your time. It also makes for a great DIY holiday gift!
Once it started getting cold here in Vancouver, Chris and I started making hot chocolate almost every weekend. There’s something about a hot cup of cocoa with a big ol’ dollop of whipped cream that just instantly make me feel warm and cozy. We usually make this mix recipe at home but I realized that I didn’t actually have it up on the blog.
Well, I have it here for you to try today and I hope that you enjoy it Plus, you can customize it to your liking and add whatever else you would like. Cinnamon, vanilla extract, crushed peppermint, marshmallows, you name it! The possibilities are endless so we encourage you to have fun with it
Are you team marshmallows or team whipped cream when it comes to hot chocolate? I’m team whipped cream all day — So Delicious Cocowhip, to be exact. I grew up on cool whip and you have no idea how happy my mom and I were when we discovered this vegan alternative. It’s dairy-free (of course), made with organic coconuts, soy-free, gluten-free and contains no high fructose corn syrup. It’s good on pies, ice cream, in shakes and of course, on hot chocolate!
This mix is also perfect for a DIY holiday gift — pour it into a mason jar or airtight container of your choice, top it with vegan marshmallows, crushed peppermint, etc. and throw a tag on with the serving instructions. Voila!
We also have the tag we used available for free download if you’d like to make these DIY gift jars — click here to download the tag! Keep in mind that you will need to resize it as needed.

Description
An easy to make 3-ingredient homemade vegan hot chocolate mix that is not only delicious and easy to make, but is also the perfect DIY gift for the holidays!
Ingredients
- 3/4 cup (75g) dutch processed cocoa powder (regular cocoa powder or cacao powder work as well)
- 1/2 cup (120g) coconut sugar (or sub sugar of your choice)
- 3 tablespoons (1.2 oz) dark chocolate chips or chunks
- Pinch of salt
To serve:
- So Delicious Almondmilk with Cashew
- So Delicious Cocowhip
- Vegan candycanes, crushed (for garnish)
- Shaved dark chocolate (for garnish)
- Cinnamon (for garnish)
Instructions
- Chop the dark chocolate into small chunks if needed. Add the cacao powder, coconut sugar, dark chocolate and salt to a food processor or high speed blender and blend all of the ingredients together until uniform.
- Carefully transfer to an air-tight container or mason jar and top it with marshmallows. You may need 1 to 2 jars depending on the size you use. I used a 16 oz jar, and had some leftover to fit in an 8 oz jar, so it was about 24 oz total.
- To serve: In a medium pot over medium heat, whisk 3 tablespoons of the mix together with 1 cup non-dairy milk. Heat just until it comes to a low boil. Remove it from heat and serve with a big dollop of So Delicious Cocowhip and garnishes of your choice. Enjoy!

- The nutrition facts are only for the hot chocolate mix itself and do not take into consideration the non dairy milk.
